Why the Setup Process Matters
The initialization process is designed with a "security-first" philosophy. When you first connect your device, the bootloader verifies the firmware signature. This ensures that the software running on your device is genuine and has not been tampered with during shipping. If you ever see a warning message on your device screen during this stage, do not proceed. Contact support immediately. This cryptographic verification is the bedrock of trust for your hardware wallet.
The Golden Rule: Your Recovery Seed
During setup, you will generate a recovery seed—typically a list of 12 to 24 words. This is the most critical moment of the process. These words are the master key to your funds. If your device is lost, damaged, or stolen, this seed is the only way to recover your assets. You must write these words down on the provided physical recovery cards.
Warning: Never store your recovery seed digitally. Do not take a photo of it, do not type it into a computer file, and never upload it to the cloud. Digital copies can be hacked; physical paper cannot.
